Follow the rules

Zechariah 3:1-10: God laments that Israel has fallen away so much. But Zechariah has a vision in the 2nd year of Darius of the high priest Joshua standing before God with Satan as his accuser. But God rebukes Satan and says he will take Jerusalem back in the fold. An angel changes Joshua's filthy clothes to festal apparel. The Angel says to Joshua that he must walk in God's ways and keep my requirements.

2nd Peter 2:4-21: People are saved when they believe in Jesus, so false prophets have arisen and say eat, drink and be merry and fool around as you're saved no matter what. Peter says you have to follow the straight and narrow road.

Both these passages bring to mind that although there is talk of God's love and saving grace, a lot of the Bible is do this, don't do that. The Bible seems to be more of a cultural moral standard thing, than a life transforming thing. Because the higher ups can't look in people's hearts, they can just look at what people do. Which is why Jesus said, don't judge, that's God's business.
